Theses and projects
I’m currently open to new thesis and project enquiries related to my research. Possible areas include:
- Dependable adaptation: specifying, monitoring, and evolving the boundaries where learned components hand results to planners, monitors, and policies.
- Reasoning in software: checking whether language models preserve what stakeholders meant, or connecting model explanations to logical facts that can be verified.
Topics building on earlier studies:
- LLM-assisted debugging: studying which failure evidence helps language models diagnose or repair software, and how to control its disclosure.
- Explainable learning: evaluating and combining explanations, including when training data stays with different participants in federated learning.
Programming and software-engineering experience are useful preparation. Depending on the topic, experience with machine learning, formal methods, or designing and analysing experiments may also help. My selected papers offer a starting point for reading.
To discuss a possible topic, email nicolas.schuler@kit.edu with:
- your degree programme and whether you are looking for a thesis or a project;
- the question or topic that interests you, and why;
- relevant courses, projects, or experience;
- your intended start date and any deadlines.
A short description is enough to start the conversation. We can then discuss a suitable scope and timing.
